Background Information on the University of Phoenix The University of Phoenix is the biggest regionally accredited private college in the nation. Regional accreditation is necessary because of its widespread acceptance by employers and other colleges if you decide to transfer or get an advanced degree.
They are developing into the top brand name for distance learning colleges. They have more than 150 campuses all over the country as well as an online school. Therefore they will not be looked down upon, as some other Universities that only offer online degrees.
With any of their distance learning degree programs, you should not fear being isolated in your home, or left on your own. They require you to interact with other students: You must respond to electronic messages from the teacher and other students in your “class” on the internet. You are assigned a counselor to help you with any problem you may have.
They train you to use their system in your beginning classes. In addition, you will probably interact with many of the same students as you progress toward graduating your distance learning degree program. Therefore you will probably get to know many of your fellow students, which could lead to valuable contacts for your career.
They do more training of their teachers than other distance learning colleges, especially in the area of training teachers to use technology to aid learning. They designed their distance learning degree programs and trained their teachers with the internet in mind. University of Phoenix is one of the first colleges to offer entire distance learning degree program online (unlike many other schools that use mail, or require you to come to their college for some classes).
All of the teachers have either a Master’s or Doctoral degree AND work in their field, giving you the advantage of teachers with "real-world" experience." Their courses are developed with experts in the field and are often updated and focus on real world applications. (For more information:UOP online)
They offer classes one at a time, each class lasting only a few weeks, so you are not overwhelmed with juggling classes and assignments. Many students complete a distance learning degree program in 2-3 years, while maintaining their job and family responsibilities. (You also have the option of taking more than one at a time).
Since Phoenix University has dozens of campuses throughout the country, you may have the option of using their on-campus resources. They have one of the largest number of majors and degrees to choose from.
Their advertising gets them noticed, but the only way they could maintain their giant size (and growing fast) is by satisfying students. It is hard to gain a good reputation, and it only takes a little bad press to damage a reputation. So far I have only heard good things about them. And they report a 95 percent satisfaction rate among their graduates.
They allow you to transfer credits from other colleges and from tests, but they are not as flexible as some other colleges. But what you do have with the University of Phoenix is a well organized and useful distance learning degree degree program that has one of the best levels of student to student, and student to teacher, interactions.
They are a regionally accredited college, which makes you eligible for federal, financial aid. They also allow you to pay for each course individually. Most other colleges expect you to make large lump sum tuition payments at the beginning of each semester.
Since they allow credits from other colleges, you can save money by taking some credits (or tests) from less expensive colleges and then transfer them to Phoenix. (But you would, of course, check with the University of Phoenix as to what courses/credits are transferable, before you take them.) Order now for free informationUOP online
Learn From My Experience:
When I was considering a University for a Master Degree in Social Work, I considered New York University. They had an excellent reputation for its specialization in individual counseling, but I did not have enough money to attend. I went to their financial aid office and found out that they (supposedly) had no money to aid me.
However, as I was looking through their written materials, I noticed that New York University was giving a 50 percent of tuition scholarship, for my degree, just for being an employee of the Board of Education, which I was! So even though, at first, I thought I did not have enough money, the net cost (after the scholarship) was reasonable and I received the education that I wanted.
Lesson: make sure you look through the college’s written materials for special situations!
